My first attempt at blogging...

Hey everyone!

Quick update to let you know things are going well. Brian and Judy joined the Hamptons (Rob and Karen, the couple who we are covering for) yesterday on post and attended the chaplain's staff meeting. They were introduced to the chaplains and their assistants and were assigned a sponsor right there. With the sponsor, we all were able to obtain our post passes the same day. Praise God!

During the meeting, we were excited to learn that a VBS was scheduled for late June at the chapel, and they were pleased to learn they had 5 new helpers! All 6 of us went to a planning meeting today and got our assigned jobs. It was great for my parents to meet so many spouses of soldiers that were interested in hearing about the Hospitality House (HH). What an unexpected open door, it will be great getting to know so many new friends.

Today, Claire and I were able to participate in the youth ministries on post. Many of the regulars that come to the HH are also involved with the youth
, so we were able to continue getting to know everyone. We joined the middle school youth group in superhero themed games (capes and everything!)and a short Bible study. Then we headed over the Teen Center and started meeting people there. I'm excited about these opportunities God keeps giving us, and I can't wait to build relationships both on post and in the HH.
I've really enjoyed getting a glimpse what a kids life on post is like. They go to school with other Americans and paticipate in other normal activities, like this weekend is the Senior Prom! It feels like a mini America with the movie theatre, bowling ally and one lone Burger King! Of course, when you walk out the gates you are immersed again in Italian culture!

Prayer Requests:

* The main unit here in Vicenza is deployed to Afghanistan. Pray for the many families that are waiting for their loves ones to return, for protection over our troops, and for them to experiencec God's strength and peace.

* Pray for Rob and Karen Hampton as they prepare to leave for the States on Monday. Pray they have a safe trip and get some needed R&R.

* Diligence in reaching out to people we come in contact with (even if language is a barrier)

* This will be our first Friday of worship time and dinner at the house. Pray that we can learn how to make everything run smoothly and that we can connect to the people we meet.

* For Matt, Carla and Isaac Selling who are staying at our home and caring for our dogs and home. They're dealing with difficult situations that have come up, and we are so thankful they are there! But those problems can be a real distraction for us and them! Please pray that they will have a peaceful 7 weeks!

God Bless!
Katie
